June 4th Devotional

Dear Friends,
I want to thank you all for your presence last night for our dress rehearsal for the Annual Conference Ordination Service.  What a glorious time to be a part of commissioning and ordaining those that are called to serve as pastors and elders in ministry.  It’s a “big deal” to say the least!  And, of course, as always, we want everything to be perfect for our guests.  But today’s devotional reminds us that our futile striving for perfection can lead to worshiping false idols.  Yikes!  That’s serious!  Musically speaking, I am always striving for perfection, knowing full well that it’s unattainable.  I, like you, want to bring my best to the Master, but keeping in mind that whatever I bring (sing, ring or play) is ultimately for Him and He knows my heart.  May we all be perfectly imperfect with a joyful heart full of love for our Creator.  Amen!

Remember that you live in a fallen world: an abnormal world tainted by sin.  Much frustration and failure result from your seeking perfection in this life.  There is nothing perfect in this world except Me.  That is why closeness to Me satisfies deep yearnings and fills you with Joy.

I have planted longing for perfection in every human heart.  This is a good desire, which I alone can fulfill.  But most people seek this fulfillment in other people and earthly pleasures or achievements.  Thus they create idols, before which they bow down.  I will have no other gods before Me!  Make Me the deepest desire of your heart.  Let Me fulfill your yearning for perfection.

Exodus 20:3 3 “You must not have any other god but me.

Psalm 37:4
4 Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.
