June 5 Devotional

Dear Friends,
My father-in-law often states that the reason for our frustration stems from attempting to get people to do what you want them to do.  After I’ve vented for a while, he’ll state, “So your problem is getting people to do what you want them to do.”  Regardless of the problem, that seems to be the real issue.  If we’re looking to others to be perfect and to do what we want them to do, then we’re setting ourselves up for disappointment and grief.  We, by our very nature, are imperfect.  Only God is perfect and our longing for perfection, however allusive, will only be obtained in Christ our Savior.  Seek Him first, and all other desires will be fulfilled in Him.  Be blessed!  Scott

Remember that you live in a fallen world: an abnormal world tainted by sin.  Much frustration and failure result from your seeking perfection in this life.  There is nothing perfect in this world except Me.  That is why closeness to Me satisfies deep yearnings and fills you with Joy.

I have planted longing for perfection in every human heart.  This is a good desire, which I alone can fulfill.  But most people seek this fulfillment in other people and earthly pleasures or achievements.  Thus they create idols, before which they bow down.  I will have no other gods before Me!  Make Me the deepest desire of your heart.  Let Me fulfill your yearning for perfection.

Exodus 20:3 3 “You must not have any other god but me.

Psalm 37:4  4 Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.
