August 22 Devotional

Dear Beloved,
Fear is often at the root of many of our struggles internally and externally.  That’s why Jesus and angels usually begin by saying “fear not”!  They know our first human instinct is to react in fear.  But we are not people of fear are we!  We are people of trust and faith who have put on the armor of Christ, our shepherd, our shield, our defender and our rock!  This morning I learned of a heroic act of courage and faith made by an Atlanta school clerk named Antoinette Tuff.  Maybe you saw the story as well.  In brief, an assailant carrying an AK-47 entered the Atlanta school and Ms. Tuff talked him into giving himself up before he harmed anyone or himself.  She felt genuine compassion and love for her would-be attacker.  She literally said to him “I love you”!  No doubt, the greatest of these is indeed “love”.  If you have a moment, go online and listen to the call.  It’ll bring tears to your eyes (it did mine!).  So, people of faith and love, fear not and go with God.  Peace, Scott

Trust Me, and don’t be afraid.  I want you to view trials as exercises designed to develop your trust-muscles.  You live in the midst of fierce spiritual battles, and fear is one of Satan’s favorite weapons.  When you start to feel afraid, affirm your trust in Me.  Speak out loud, if circumstances permit.  Resist the devil in My Name, and he will slink away from you.  Refresh yourself in My holy Presence.  Speak or sing praises to Me, and My Face will shine radiantly upon you.

Remember that there is no condemnation for those who belong to Me.  You have been judged NOT GUILTY for all eternity.  Trust Me, and don’t be afraid; for I am your Strength, Song, and Salvation.

James 4:7  7Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Romans 8:1-2  1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

Isaiah 12:2  2 Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.”
